SculpturePlace
This site is dedicated to contemporary sculpture. Its aims are to:
Bring artists and prospective buyers of their work together
Provide support for the commissioning process
Encourage successful siting of contemporary sculpture in private
and public spaces
Although it features the work of selected contemporary artists, and will expand until a wide range of contemporary practice is represented, it is not a conventional online gallery. SculpturePlace neither owns any of the works nor represents any of the artists featured – it simply commends them and their work to you.
Predominantly British sculptors are shown, with emphasis on those making objects (rather than installations or work involving moving images). There is a mix of established and emerging talent.
Buying and commissioning sculpture
If you are interested in acquiring or commissioning a piece, this is an introduction to the range of work currently being done in this country. The sculptures featured vary widely in terms of approach, scale and materials, and not all of them will be right for any given space. Should none of the works meet your criteria we can help you identify or commission something that will. Meanwhile, this carefully limited selection will whet your appetite, and perhaps take you in a different direction from the one you first envisaged.
Artists
SculpturePlace provides a showcase – a view into the studio; an archive of completed projects; a way of presenting work that is finished and ready to be sited, or proposals for new work that presently exists only as a concept – in the form of drawings or a maquette.
How to use this site
To help you find what you are looking for quickly, the sculpture on the site has been organized in two main ways:
Once you have identified an artist or work that may be of interest, go to Contact Us and we will pass on your enquiry to the individual concerned. You can then deal directly with the artist or the representing gallery.
Additional services
The site's creator, Anna Stamatiou, an independent curator and consultant, offers a flexible range of services for corporate clients or private individuals who feel they would benefit from a degree of support and guidance through the process of selecting appropriate works or commissioning new ones. Her contacts are by no means limited to the artists whose work is featured on SculpturePlace; she can help clients identify an artist who will respond effectively to any brief. More information is on the About Us page under Services, while on the Portfolio page you can look at some completed projects.
