Now completed is the most recent piece of public art acquired by Meanwhile Gardens in North Kensington with the help of a grant from KCEL… a sculptural drinking fountain commissioned for the site from Steve Bunn.

The challenging brief was to provide drinking water principally for the use of the youngsters that practise and perform in the nearby skateboarding arena, while attempting to address a continuing problem with littering in that part of the Gardens. The sculpture answers the brief using the visual languages of computer graphics and cartoons – well understood by, and familiar to, its intended audience…

… a group of three monumental drinks bottle forms morph to leap, twist and dive, mirroring and celebrating the athleticism of the young skaters. At the same time they obliquely poke fun at the habit of throwing used bottles all round the area… undermining the behaviour and subtly challenging the fountain's users to be more responsible when it comes to disposing of their litter.
