Sculpture By Artist
All the artists featured on this site have been invited to participate. In that sense this is a personal selection. It might also be seen as "traditional" in so far as it understands the term "sculpture" to refer principally to a three-dimensional object that occupies a discrete space.
Many artists working today cross conventional category boundaries in their approach to their work with great freedom. This has led to a broadening of the use of the term "sculpture" to include works that would have previously been thought of as belonging to other fields, such as video, performance, photography and installation. There is no intention here to criticize this, but this site deliberately focuses on "objects", and the works featured demonstrate a continuing belief in the power and meaningfulness of the "thing" - in all its varied guises.
The site will be expanding, with more artists invited to join, until the range of approaches and media included represents a survey of contemporary object-making sculpture in Britain today.
Viewing Sculptures
Click on a name in the top right box to go to a page with an image of the artist, a short biography and some introductory text about the kind of work he or she makes. Once there, you can view the artist's work from the 'View Sculpture' buttons.
Price Guide
Since all the sculptures shown are the property of others and not owned by
SculpturePlace, it is not possible to provide a price list. Some artists have
complex arrangements with a gallery or other representative, while in other cases
funding from an outside source may have enabled a work to be realized. Furthermore,
certain artists are VAT registered, while others are not. For these reasons prices
will be given on application, so please contact us to enquire. Unless specifically
agreed otherwise, payment and delivery of a work is a matter to be agreed between
the artist and the purchaser.
